ASSENDELFT LODGE

and BUSH CAMP

On the N1 near Prince Albert Road ~  Western Cape ~  South Africa

Assendelft Lodge and Bush Camp provide an escape from the rush of daily life, whether it's just an overnight stop as you travel along the N1 or a longer stay.

There are some intriguing attractions on the farm and nearby...

The pub is fully stocked and manned, if so required, from 10h00 - 02h00.

Karoo sunsets are always spectacular.

The wide open spaces beckon and you can head out across the veldt to walk around the farm. Bird watchers can add to their list of Karoo birds and might even be able to identify some of those mystifying lbj's at Assendelft.

A fossil trail has been opened in conjunction with the Department of Paleontology from the University of the Witwatersrand. Guided tours can be arranged, free of charge, for visitors and guests.

You might like to visit the lonely grave of Private Carver, killed in an accident during the Anglo-Boer War and buried beneath flat Karoo stones and a Guild Cross:

For King and Empire

FW Carver No. 4628, 16th Lancers

Died 10 September 1901.

The famous artist Outa Lappies used to live in a cottage at the Prince Albert Road Station, he sadly died on 7th July 2011. He is known for the art he created from odds and ends others would throw away - the man who really made "something out of nothing." You can see some of his work at the Fransie Pienaar Museum in Prince Albert.
